Which Disney World value resort is better: All Star Sports or Pop Century?

Question by Al’s Avatar: Which Disney World value resort is better: All Star Sports or Pop Century?
During my last trip to WDW about 7 or so years ago I stayed at All Star Sports and I am considering returning there for my next trip. Before I do is there anything about Pop Century that in any way makes it a better choice overall to stay in or should I just return to Sports? Also I do not want to stay off property so please no suggestions to do that. Thanks.

personally i think pop century is the best value resort.
its the newest and most well kept.
the rooms recenty got a make over with new carpet, new paint, new dressers, new flat screen tv’s, new mattresses, new bedding, and they’ve added a privacy curtain between the bath are and bed area.
the other major advantage to pop century is that it has its own bus line where as all 3 of the all star resorts share a bus line.
i find the theme of pop century to be the best of the value resorts as well. you can take a walk down “memory lane” to read about highlights in each year from the 50′s-90′s.
there’s also giant pop culture icons including a big twister board you can actually play on.
and in the lobby there are glass cases with memorabilia from the 50′s-90′s. its fun to look and say OH I REMEMBER THAT OR I HAD THAT!
the 3 themed pools are awesome too.
and i find that pop century’s food court is great.
also its the only place in all of disney world and you can get TIE-DYE CHEESE CAKE!

We’ve stayed at all 3 All-Stars as well as Pop Century and Pop gets my vote hands-down. Not that All-Stars are bad, just that it seems Disney got it right (more right?) when they did Pop. We like to layout, the fact that we don’t share bus stops with another resort and the overall theme at Pop…

Hopefully, they’ll have the Classic Years side of Pop finished in my lifetime!

century is no lap of luxury. only good thing is the shuttle to diseny, they charge you appx $ 10 per day for internet. the room is like quality in or motel 6 just more expensive. but near there you lots of eating places

I agree pop is better than the all stars. I have stayed at Pop and really enjoyed it BUT I must say upgrading to moderate and staying at Port Orleans Riverside was more than worth the extra money.

Pop, like all value resorts, is a bit crowded. I travel with young kids and I watch them like a hawk. So I hate being at resorts where parents don’t give a rat’s a** what their kids are doing. We ran into that at pop with children’s horseplay getting way out of hand in the pools (one of mine was a toddler at the time.) Poor lifeguards were on those kids every minute and no parent ever stepped in. So I do think the pop in being “cheap” does attract more “low quality” too if that makes sense.

We tried Alligator Bayou at Port Orleans and it was SOOOOO much better. The theming at moderates is awesome. The Old Man Island pool has a water slide the kids adored. There are also quiet basic pools as well. AT Riverside you can ride the water taxi (free) over to the French quarter and use their themed pool with water slide as well. Or you can take the water taxi all the way to downtown disney (still free!) We loved that feature. Kids loved the boat ride and we loved having that alternate transportation.

The other thing was we stayed through fireworks both trips at MK one night. We had to fold the stroller for bus line so I had children in my arms sleeping on me both times. The pop bus line took us over at hour to advance far enough in line to get on a bus – I had never been so miserable! The Port Orleans line took us maybe 10-15 minutes so that was totally better! you kind of do get what you pay for.

So if you must go value, pop is best choice. But if you can go moderate – I would try to swing that.

Hands down without question you will want to stay at the Pop Century. The reason has to do with the bus. All three All Star resorts share the same bus. This means you will be stoping at All Star Music and Movies before you hit the Sports. The Pop Century has its own dedicated bus to the parks. You go directly to the park and back without making any little side trips. This is really nice on the long ride home after a full day in the parks.

I’ve never stayed at the All Star Sports, but I did stay at the Pop Century recently.

I would recommend trying the Pop Century…the theme is cool and the rooms are nice. Plus, it gets it’s own bus so you don’t have to make stops at other hotels on your way to the parks. It has a variety of pools and a big food court type place for breakfast. I wasn’t so sure about staying there when I first went, but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality.

    POP. Better pools.

From what I’ve heard, Pop Century is a really good resort, especially for the value. It’s a goo choice especially if your family isn’t all into sports. Pop Century seems to appeal well to anyone. But either is a good choice.
